The Wilds @ Northern Hay

SAFARI @ THE WILDS

The Forest is Calling...

"Baring its beauty yet slyly hiding its mystery,
Appearing vulnerable yet fiercely secured,
Embracing yet warning you, lest you overstep,
Holding diverse lives yet singing a unified song,
Giving generously yet holding inexhaustible riches,
You pride yourself about what you know,
It humbly smiles about what you do not know.
The forest is calling..".

The doors of the jungle cannot be opened, because Mother Nature is protective about her offspring. But the windows are enough to get a sneak peak into what lies within! Join the thrilling ride into the forest of Mudumalai to be intrigued and awe-struck. Our tried and tested safari jeeps survive the rough terrains and take you to the enigmatic forest. A dense and deep jungle has opened its windows for you. Take a ride and fall in love with the wilderness!

WALKING @ THE WILDS

Explore the beautiful terrain!

"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time." - Steven Wright.

Do you have the time to scale a mountain, tread through a coffee plantation, or step into the realm of the forest? If you do, you are at the right place. The Wilds at Northern Hay is situated at the edge of the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Amidst a coffee plantation, with the mountains as the backdrop and ensconced in a deep jungle, walkers and photographers will enjoy their stay with us. There are different walking paths to suit your interests.

BIRDING @ THE WILDS

Winged wonders!

Prepare yourself to be amazed by the constant fluttering of diversely coloured wings, varied sounds and sights of birds aplenty. The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary houses more than 200 species of birds, a fact of joy for the avid bird watchers.

Black Woodpeckers, Malabar Grey Hornbills, Spotted Babblers, Scops Owls, The Crested Hawk Eagles, Malabar Whistling Thrushes, Falcons, Buzzards, Large Racket-Tailed Drongos are some of the birds found in this region. With a pair of binoculars and a bird book, off you go to capture stunning visuals of these beauties in the pages of your mind.

February to April

The season of butterflies and birds!

As summer creeps in on the jungle, a dry warmth spreads over the place. The deciduous forest becomes dry. Wildlife can be spotted around water holes. But it is the best time for birders and butterfly enthusiasts, as scores of them fly over and across the jungle.

May to August

The lush green season!

With the weather turning around after the summer, the months of May and June are unpredictable. Come July, the forest is lush again after being kissed by the rains. Monsoon sets in during the months of July and August. Wildlife spotting is at its peak during this time.

September to November

The jumbo season!

With the undergrowth of the forest getting thicker, the jumbos are out in large numbers. By jumbos we mean the elephants and bisons! This season too is characterized by rainfall. Herds of elephants can be seen crossing from one end to another.

December to January

The big cat season!

Staying close to the Mudumalai tiger reserve, it would be criminal not to spot the big cat! This is the best time to spot tigers. The winter is characterized by clear blue skies and starry nights. It is also a good time to see dholes up and about.

The Wilds at Northern Hay

A 98 acre coffee estate intertwined gracefully with the edges of a dense jungle, both existing in perfect harmony with each other - a rarity indeed! The Wilds at Northern Hay is a jungle lodge located right in the middle of this plantation and jungle confluence. Once a coffee warehouse, the bungalow has now been restored and redesigned. It has been featured among India's 20 Best Bed and Breakfast Places by Conde Nast Traveller.

While the thrills are offered by the forest, all we do is but offer you a place to maximise the experience. The wild goodness of the forest and a comfortable resort to stay are what we have in store for the wandering spirit in you.
"Live in the wilderness. Let the wilderness live in you."
